CUP PROFILE: Coffee Cake • Brown Sugar • Sweetened Condensed Milk
This was a stand out coffee for us on the cupping table. The coffee smells like baked goods when it was ground. At first, it reminded me of molasses, but then I noticed some spicy hints that made it smell like ginger cookies. The smell was even sweeter when it was wet. This coffee has a sweet taste with hints of toasted brown sugar, coffee cake, and a creamy sweetness like sweetened condensed milk. It has hints of cinnamon and ginger as it cools. It's perfect for pour-over coffee, but it tastes good with any brewing method! defiantly a heavier body. Amazing straight up and a perfect with milk.
This is more of a heavier body with a unique sweetness coffee.
Farm Notes:
This lot is made up of small lots of coffee from farmers in Kahayya town, South Sulawesi. You see a lot of very old coffee trees, including Line-s, and Typica types, some that Marsan claimed are over 100 years old. It would make sense considering the long history of coffee in this area that stretches back to Dutch colonizers. You also see a lot of very old Robusta in the area too, which is processed separately from the Arabica. The altitude in Kahayya ranges from 1400 to 1700 meters above sea level.
